General:
Perennial herb from thick rhizomes; stems succulent, usually erect, 2-10 cm tall/long, simple or branched, sparsely soft-hairy.
Leaves:
Basal leaves round- to kidney-shaped, 4-9 mm long, 2-14 mm wide, with 5 to 9 broad, round teeth, thick, heart-shaped at base, smooth or with thick white hairs; slender-stalked, the stalks with reddish-brown crinkly hairs; stem leaves similar, few.
Flowers:
Inflorescence a few-flowered, terminal cluster, the flowers inconspicuous; bracts unstalked, or nearly so; petals lacking; calyces joined to lower half of ovaries (the hypanthium); sepals 4, broadly rounded, mottled-purple; stamens 8.
Fruits:
Capsules, the free portion 2-lobed; seeds smooth.

Habitat / Range

Wet seepage, solifluction and scree slopes in the alpine zone; rare in NW BC, known only from Squaw Creek, Haines Triangle; amphiberingian, N to AK, YT and NT; NE Asia.
